Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is another one of those books that I think most people are quite familiar with. And one that I know I’ve misspelled countless times. This book takes a look at a world where books are banned and now the job of “fireman” are to burn any books that are found. Needless to say the character becomes disillusioned with this job and it explores his run from the law until he meets up with other people in the books version of the underground railroad. While I was reading this I wondered if I would be someone who would be willing to be part of this. I’d like to think so.
These people keep what they deem to be the most important books alive by memorizing them and then reciting them to each other when needed. Often around campfires. I did find that part particularly uplifting. In my opinion it was a beautiful way to romanticize the idea of what could amount to slam poetry around a campfire. As someone who loves reading that appealed to me. I found the overall story compelling and the book to be an enjoyable read. Again, it’s been a while since I read this book but I don’t recall having any major problems with it. Another book that I believe should be in everyone’s library.
