Ah, the book I have a love/hate relationship with.  Don’t get me wrong, this book is brilliant.  I really couldn’t put it down.  The characters were fascinating.  The scenes were vividly described.  The story pulled you in so you couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.  The story lets you see the world through the eyes of a black man growing up in south America.  And while it does an excellent job showcasing the cultural and societal issues it does it in such a unique and amazing way.  So then the question is why did I say that I have a love/hate relationship with this book?  Well, I don’t really know for sure myself to be honest. 

 There is something about the way that Ralph writes that I can’t stand.  Don’t know exactly what it is, use of grammar, sentence structure, or whatever.  Just something about it bugs me.  So, technically, I hated reading it. But the content was just so good I had to read it.  To me that says a lot because if I hate it, I’m not reading it.  No matter what everyone else says.  That’s why I’ve never finished Moby Dick despite it being a classic.
