Let me start off by saying that I believe that this book was just a bit premature in being published.  Because of this I found it to be a rather difficult read at times.  Some times there was way too much unnecessary information, an information overload if you will, and some of it was conveyed over and over again causing me to get a little frustrated and bored.  Also, I will say I found the writing style to be a bit odd.   Everything written in the present tense felt weird to me, though I don’t think there’s anything technically wrong with that.  It could be that I’m just not used to it.

That being said what I did like, I really liked.  The main character was very easy to relate to.  The other characters felt real and interesting as well.  The overall story line is quite good and most of the side stories are as well.  The last few chapters where you start getting to the main action were great.  I wish I could talk about some of it but I don’t want to spoil it for you.  Finally, I found the use of what one could consider Christian folklore, for lack of a better word, very fascinating.  I think anyone who has a background in Christianity would feel the same.

After a good edit, I think this book has the potential to be amazing.   Or, as I have suggested to the author, an amazing couple of books.  I felt as I was reading it that it could better suited to be split into 3 or 4 books.  Similar to the John Carter series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.  That being said, I still have to rate it as it is currently.
