Well this book surprised me. Maybe it’s my fault. I made the cliched mistake of judging a book by it’s cover. It looked like it was going to be just a silly action/adventure story, and while that was indeed there, it was a bit deeper and better written then I thought it would be. I would say that it feels like either an 80’s cartoon or like a 90’s anime. There is no doubt that my teenage self would have loved this book. We all want to pretend to be an awesome, sword, buckler and ray gun wielding hero; married to a gorgeous faerie, and fighting the forces of evil. Who wouldn’t want that? If that’s something you are looking for, or if you’re looking for a fun story for your older kids to read then this book is perfect for you.
This book has one major, major problem. Whoever decided the margins of the book was an idiot. The words go all the way into the spine, making it one of the most annoying books I’ve ever had to read. So despite enjoying the content I really didn’t like reading the book for that reason. This book would have had a very positive 4.2/5 if not for this extremely frustrating printing. You probably won’t have this problem if you by this on kindle but that’s a problem into itself. I prefer physical copies. They can’t “accidentally” delete your physical book. Trust me, buy physical books. Like this one. It’s a great read, a lot of fun, and yet has some good quality substance to it. Give it a shot, you won’t regret it.
