Book 4 in the Starshatter series
The 4th book in Black Knights Starshatter series is one that kind of fell off for me at the end. Don’t get me wrong, the vast majority of the book is amazing. The group comes back to earth and they each split up into different groups with various things that they intend to accomplish. The stories of Awesome, Lilly, Mack, and Kera are all very interesting and see our hero’s face new, but actually old, dangers. The Captain’s butler and best friend comes to earth and he too, has his own struggles to deal with. As per the usual, you have a lot of good action sequences paired with strong moral convictions. This is really Black Knight’s forte.
The only problem I had with this book was really some of The Captain’s story. Now the part that the book is named for, Von Braun’s Gambit, that stuff was all interesting. But then there’s this race that he has to do to get a piece that necessary for the story to go on. So while I understand that it’s somewhat necessary, I was just a little bored with it. It kind of felt like a filler story line in an anime before they get back to the main story line. Now that that’s out of the way, the story of Lilly I found to be particularly of interest to me. She shows an undying loyalty, strength of character, and kindness in her story. Also a kind of mentorship that I really didn’t think she was capable of at the time.
